Company History
Sport Builders was launched in 2000 by company president Matt Jacobs. Matt's involvement with tennis dates back much further, however. As a competitive tennis player from an early age, he played #1 for his tennis team in high school and college while achieving a top-ten ranking in the Middle States region of the United States Tennis Association (USTA). After graduating from Albright College in Reading, PA, he became a certified teaching USPTR professional at Hillcrest Racquet Club in Reading, PA. When the tennis club became available for purchase in 1994, Matt jumped at the chance to become a club owner.
With six hard courts and four clay courts to maintain on a tight budget, Matt performed the maintenance and resurfacing work himself. By 1997, club members began to ask Matt to work on their private tennis courts due to the tremendous improvement in playing conditions at Hillcrest. In 2000, with a growing list of clients including public, private and municipal customers, Matt separated the tennis contracting business from Hillcrest Racquet Club, giving Sport Builders its official start. By 2004 the business had expanded both in services offered and in geographic region covering New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. In 2010, Sport Builders expanded operations into the Connecticut and New York markets.
