Ripp Park Tennis Courts with Probounce

Complete demolition, post-tension concrete overlay and a rebuild with ProBounce® were the considered and priced options.

The scope of work included evaluation of the old courts, recommendations for reconstruction and budget analysis. Once a decision had been made on the surface, we provided all design and specifications for contractor bidding. Once construction started, we provided quality control and daily inspections. We also provided verification on the new screenings for 1% slope and especially planarity before placement.

Description of project:

The oldest courts (south and center batteries) had less than 0.060% slope. The newer north battery had an average of 0.81%. The fence posts also had diagonal braces driven into the ground which were cracking the asphalt as the frost was lifting the posts. It was decided to salvage the 4" fence post (after removal of braces) since they were 12' tall and drive them to the new 10' elevation. California corners were added for strength and looks. The courts were pulverized, new stone was added to bring them to 1% slope, a concrete border was added under the exterior fences, new concrete walks and bleacher areas along with a new pad for the storage shed were added. 2" of screenings were laser graded and a ProBounce® system installed.

Layout and Design:

Number of courts: 9
Number of courts per battery: 3
Dimensions of each battery: 156' x 120'
Distance between courts: 12'
Slope (% or inches/feet): 1%
Orientation N/S

The 360' continuous fence line on the west side was susceptible to wind loads coming off the hill to the west. California Corners were installed to help strengthen the fence line as well as create a better visual impact. Courts were raised. New landscaping increased slope away from courts. Drainage improved. New 4'6" wide concrete walks on the east side. And new 24' x 12', 20' x 12', and 22' x 12' bleacher pads.
